336,980 registrations on OASIS in four years

In July 2021, when Germany opened its online gaming market via the Gaming Treaty (GlüNeuRStV), a protection mechanism was launched: OASIS, the national self-exclusion system. Today, this mechanism is proving to be a tangible success.

OASIS attracts nearly 350,000 players

Four years after its rollout, 336,980 registrations had been recorded by the end of July 2025, a figure very close to the 350,000 announced. The progress is real, measurable and significant.

Why is it so successful? Because OASIS is easy to activate, mandatory for all licensed operators, and very flexible in terms of exclusion periods. Each player can find the option that suits their current needs.

Choosing to stop: durations tailored to each need

What duration do players prefer? The majority opt for a one-year exclusion: 182,057 people have chosen this period. Nearly 49,168 individuals have chosen the shortest duration, i.e. just under a year.

But some go even further. Among registrations up to 14 August 2025, 22,381 players have opted for the longest possible exclusion period, i.e. more than 10 years. Players must wait until the end of their period to request reinstatement: there is no early release.

For those who feel an urgent need for a break, OASIS offers an ingenious feature: 24-hour exclusion, activated with a single click by an operator. And it’s proving popular: 40,358 players took advantage of it in July 2025 alone.

The third-party exclusion option

Another less visible but equally important angle concerns exclusions triggered by third parties. In 97% of cases, it is the players themselves who initiate the exclusion. The remaining 3% are initiated by a third party, and these situations involve a minimum exclusion period of 12 months.

A stable situation, but fewer and fewer departures

The monthly figures show consistency: between 7,300 and 9,600 new registrations each month until the end of July 2025. At the same time, however, departures from the system are falling sharply: from 7,404 in August 2024 to just 2,821 in July 2025.

Adoption in a broader context

The publication of this data coincides with the first quarterly report by the Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder, the federal regulator, on cross-border gaming issues. Archived among more comprehensive data, it specifies that:

  • In Q1 2025, stakes (excluding lotteries) reached €3.51 billion: €2.18 billion for sports betting, €1.1 billion for virtual slot machines, and €204 million for online poker.
  • In Q2, these amounts fell to £3.22 billion, a drop of 8.3%.

This shows that, as the market evolves, OASIS acts as a structural counterweight, protecting individuals from potential abuses, including during periods of peak activity or tension.
