The 3rd edition of the AFJEL’s annual colloquium will focus on an important question: how to deal with the worrying rise of the illegal online gaming market and its repercussions on French society?
The AFJEL (Association Française du Jeu en Ligne) annual conference is now establishing itself as a key moment in the public debate on the regulation and security of online gambling in France.
For this 3rd edition, the association has chosen a strong theme:
‘Online gaming faced with the surge of the illegal market: what issues for what consequences?’
The event will be held on 5 November 2025 at the Hôtel de l’Industrie, in the heart of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
The aim of the conference will be to draw up a precise inventory of the illegal market, explore its economic, social and security consequences, and propose concrete solutions to strengthen the protection of French gamblers.
An exploding illegal market
According to the first results of the AFJEL 2025 barometer, illegal online gambling is experiencing unprecedented growth. More and more unlicensed sites are targeting French players, attracted by aggressive offers and promises of quick winnings.
These platforms are often hosted abroad and are completely outside the scope of national regulation. This poses serious security problems, both for users and for the economic ecosystem of legal gambling.
Joint reflection by experts
The conference will bring together a wide range of high-level speakers: institutional representatives, regulators, economists, digital experts and political figures.
All will share their views on developments in the sector and the challenges posed by the growth of the illegal market:
- How can French players be protected from unauthorised sites?
- What cybersecurity measures can be put in place to strengthen traceability and transparency?
- How can public and private players be coordinated to combat fraudulent operators effectively?
These discussions should help to identify concrete avenues for action, at both regulatory and technological levels, to consolidate the sector’s security and promote responsible and sustainable online gaming.
Registration is open, but the number of places is limited. Prior registration is required to take part.
