Gaming Commission punishes gambling companies: these are the rules they broke

The Gaming Commission‘s 2024 annual report states in black and white that gambling providers do not always comply with their obligations. The commission imposed five sanctions on gambling companies that did not comply with the rules. Six more cases are currently under investigation.

The violations range from incorrect application of the EPIS exclusion system to ignoring rules on advertising and bonuses. According to the Commission, this poses a risk to vulnerable players and undermines confidence in supervision.

Online sector again leads the way in errors

Most of the errors again came from the online gambling sector. The scale and speed of digital games make enforcement difficult. But according to the Commission, that is no excuse. Companies are obliged to screen every player via the EPIS system and to limit advertising, especially to young people.

The Gaming Commission emphasises that sanctions are necessary to remain credible. The current fines send a signal to the sector: those who do not comply with the rules will be dealt with.

More cooperation and data exchange needed

In its annual report, the Commission urges better cooperation between regulators and platforms. The role of the FPS Economy is also mentioned. According to the Commission, faster action must be taken in the event of repeated errors. The automation of checks is also being considered. However, as long as some providers deliberately ignore the rules, sanctions will remain necessary. The report even mentions the possibility of temporarily suspending licences if providers repeat their offences.
