Every summer, Belgian administrations slow down, and this year is no exception. The Gaming Commission (GC) has just announced that processing times for licence applications will be considerably longer during July and August 2025. The reason for this is the reduction in the number of staff available during the summer period.
This change will have a direct impact on both online and physical gaming operators, as well as any new players wishing to obtain or extend an operating licence.
A commission under pressure
Aware of the possible consequences, the GC has been keen to reassure applicants, explaining that it is putting in place measures to limit delays. These include intermediary meetings, organised on an ad hoc basis, which will enable certain simple and complete applications to be processed more quickly.
“Applicants are asked to take this into account and to provide the necessary documents on time. Thank you for your understanding!” reads the press release published on 18 June 2025 on the Commission’s official website.
This response illustrates the Commission’s desire to strike a balance between administrative rigour and seasonal constraints.
