Online game provider fined for autoplay

The Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) recently took action against an online gambling operator that offered a prohibited feature: autoplay. This feature, which allows players to continue betting automatically without human intervention, is strictly prohibited in the country due to its impact on gambling addiction.

Violation detected at online roulette table

The case was triggered by a report that a player was able to continue betting automatically without withdrawing their winnings at an online roulette table. After investigating, Ksa confirmed the existence of the feature and immediately ordered the operator concerned to disable it. The regulator required the game to be re-audited before being put back into service.

Reminder to all operators

In addition to this specific sanction, the KSA also issued a warning to all online gaming providers. Many operators use software developed by third parties, which can lead to the involuntary distribution of prohibited features. The KSA reiterated that the responsibility for compliance with the regulations lies with each operator, even if the technology comes from an external service provider.

A major issue for player protection

As a reminder, in the Netherlands, online casinos are not allowed to offer the autoplay function in their online games. This feature, which allows successive bets without direct interaction, can encourage risky behavior and uncontrolled consumption of the game. There is therefore an increased risk of addiction. Strict regulation of online gaming practices remains a priority for the KSA, which ensures that operators comply with the rules.
