This Winimo competition promises accommodation for €20

Launched on 7 March, an online competition from Winimo offers participants the chance to win an apartment for a stake of €20.

A property competition that is attracting curiosity

Can you really become the owner of an apartment for just €20? In Liège, an online competition recently launched by Winimo promises this possibility and is already generating a lot of interest.

The initiative officially began on 7 March. Accessible online, it offers players the chance to take part in a digital competition. Unlike a traditional lottery, Winimo’s game is entirely based on the skills of the participants: players must capture thirty moles as quickly as possible. Two hundred participants are guaranteed to win a prize, but only one will walk away with the property.

An apartment up for grabs

The main prize obviously attracts all the attention. The property up for grabs is an apartment located on Quai de Rome, a well-known neighbourhood in Liège.

The entry fee is deliberately kept affordable: twenty euros per entry. This is a relatively modest sum compared to the price of a property. However, in order for the property to be awarded to the winner, the competition must reach a minimum threshold of 24,000 participants. The entries are used to finance the property up for grabs and the prizes distributed.

If the number of participants remains below this threshold, the winners will receive a share of the profits generated by the competition entries, rather than the property itself.

A completely legal competition

In response to questions that such a concept may raise, the organisers emphasise the legal framework of the project. Fred Charlot states that the competition was reviewed by the Gaming Commission in mid-December, prior to its launch.

“This game is 100% legal and 100% free of chance. We were inspected in mid-December by the GC, the Gaming Commission. Everything is fine, and we are expecting a maximum number of players in complete safety. And our most exciting moment will not be today, but when we have our first winner.”

Whatever happens, the experiment is already a curiosity in the Belgian property market. Combining marketing innovation, digital gaming and the dream of home ownership, Winimo is attempting to transform a simple competition into a property opportunity.

Other property lottery projects in Belgium

The idea of winning a house or a castle through a lottery is not new, but in Belgium, this type of initiative faces particularly strict regulations.

In 2024, a project offering the chance to win a castle for ten euros was stopped in its tracks by the authorities. The Gaming Commission ruled that it was indeed an illegal lottery, as participants were paying for a ticket in the hope of winning a property by lottery, without official authorisation. This decision serves as a reminder that private lotteries are heavily regulated in Belgium. Only organisations with a licence or special status can organise this type of game.

One institution occupies a special place: the National Lottery. Unlike private operators, it benefits from a specific legal framework that allows it to organise lottery games accessible to the general public. Since May 2025, it has been offering the chance to win a dream home every month through the Lucky Code draw.
