Can you find a good online casino with AI?

Imagine: you want to know what the best online casino is in Belgium, the Netherlands or France. You used to type that into Google and get ten links back. But things are now changing at lightning speed. Nowadays, people ask that question to ChatGPT, Gemini or another AI and immediately get an answer. But is asking AI for recommendations like asking a smart friend to help you choose? Or is it dangerous?

Can ChatGPT help you find an online casino?

AIs like ChatGPT get their info from thousands of websites, but they don’t always adapt their answers based on location.

Gambling Club asked ChatGPT to recommend casinos to play on, and most of the casinos the AI provided were not licensed by the Gaming Commission (GC) and thus illegal to play on. Some of them, such as Stake, are even on the GC’s blacklist

The URLs given by ChatGPT aren’t always correct either. One result directed us to the website of a restaurant unaffiliated with gambling.

The dangers of illegal casinos

  • No Consumer Protection: Illegal casinos operate outside regulatory oversight, meaning players have no legal recourse if they’re scammed.
  • Lack of Responsible Gambling Tools: These platforms typically do not offer tools like deposit limits, time-outs, or self-exclusion, increasing the risk of addiction.
  • Personal Data at Risk: Players’ sensitive data (ID, banking info) can be stolen or misused due to weak or non-existent data protection.
  • Unfair Games and Rigged Software: There is no guarantee that games are fair, and outcomes can be manipulated by the operators.

Does AI recommend illegal casinos?

The GC maintains a blacklist of illegal gambling websites, regularly updated to warn consumers. As of 2025, there are over 600 illegal websites on the list. However, despite these efforts, illegal platforms continue to thrive.

You need to be careful when asking AI for casino recommendations, as it is unable to check whether or not a casino has a license from the GC.

In fact, many of the websites recommended by ChatGPT are foreign platforms that may have a license in their country of origin, but do not have any license or authorisation to offer gambling services to belgian users. Some of their offers go against Belgian law: they offer welcome bonuses or allow players to play with crypto-currency.

If you’re in doubt about the legality of an online casino, check their license on the GC’s website.

AI: Safety Tool or Double-Edged Sword?

AI is also being used by legitimate operators as a protective measure to identify and reduce problem gambling behaviors. At Gaming1, for example, AI algorithms analyze user behavior to detect signs of gambling addiction and trigger early interventions.

But the same technology is being weaponized by rogue operators. Deepfakes of celebrities have surfaced, promoting illegal casino sites to mislead consumers. Illegal casinos appearing in AI search results can also expose vulnerable people to dangerous platforms with no player protection.
