Police target famous businessman for illegal gambling marketing on Twitch

He claims not to have earned a single cent. Yet, Jethro Rostedt is facing a hefty fine for re-promoting gambling on Twitch, despite a previous ban.

Police state Rostedt ignored the rules

According to the Finnish police, entrepreneur and television personality Jethro Rostedt failed to comply with a previously imposed ban. In December 2024, he received an official prohibition on promoting gambling sites via his Twitch channel, accompanied by a conditional fine of €30,000. Now, over a year later, the police conclude that he continued regardless.

His channel reportedly still contained video clips referring viewers to gambling websites. The content included links and visual elements with direct references, including a drawn character strongly resembling Rostedt. One game page even had a section named after his nickname, “Jeti.”

Rostedt: no money, no control, no deal

Rostedt denies everything. According to him, he only managed the channel during live broadcasts. Afterward, he claims he no longer had access.

“I didn’t even know those old videos were still there. And I can’t even delete them.” he says in a written response to the police.

The influencer also states he never had a collaboration with a gambling company.

“I have no contract with any casino whatsoever. I don’t get paid for anything.”

He calls the looming fine excessive and points to the long period that elapsed between his response and the recent enforcement action.

“For more than a year, I hear nothing. And then this.”

Authorities remain unyielding

The police acknowledge that Rostedt removed parts of the material, but not everything. According to them, no new content was added, but old broadcasts remained online. Therefore, the amount of the conditional fine has been slightly lowered, but remains substantial: €25,000.

Rostedt states that he has since stopped using Twitch completely. Whether that is enough to avoid the fine will be decided by the Finnish authority soon. If he tries again, a new conditional fine could follow.
