Mass claims against online casinos put pressure on Unibet and other companies
Dynamiet Nederland has announced that it is suing Unibet in a collective lawsuit. The claims organisation represents some 2,500 players who lost money on illegal gambling before the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act in 2021.
The case is scheduled for October 2025 and marks the first large-scale collective civil proceedings against an online casino in the Netherlands. According to Dynamiet Nederland, the players involved are entitled to compensation for the damage suffered.
New wave of lawsuits against international gambling companies
Dynamiet published a timeline in which more lawsuits will follow. LeoVegas is next in November, followed by Betsson and OneCasino. Larger international companies such as Flutter (Pokerstars), Entain and Evoke are also scheduled for 2026.
The organisation has opted for direct action and is not waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling. This ruling should clarify whether providers of illegal gambling must pay compensation, but Dynamiet does not want to wait for that.
Casino-Claim.nl disappears and makes way for Stichting Aequitas
Meanwhile, Loonstein Advocaten’s old platform Casino-Claim.nl has been discontinued. Files that were pending there will not automatically be included in the new mass claim.
Instead, Stichting Aequitas has been established, which is initiating collective proceedings against Unibet, Bwin, LeoVegas and Pokerstars, among others, via Kansspelclaim.nl. Players who once registered with Casino-Claim.nl are free to choose again: participate in the mass claim, hire their own solicitor or await individual proceedings.
Stichting Aequitas launched Kansspelclaim.nl this week. Players can register for free on this website to reclaim their gambling losses. These are losses incurred during the period when online gambling was still illegal in the Netherlands.
According to the foundation, 75% of the damages recovered will be returned to the players. The no cure no pay principle ensures that participants do not run any financial risk themselves. Well-known figure Tom Beugelsdijk is acting as the figurehead, after losing a lot himself at Unibet.
Supreme Court plays key role, but ruling still pending
Although the mass claims are already underway, the legal outcome is uncertain. The Supreme Court has yet to respond to preliminary questions posed by various courts.
This ruling is expected in early 2026 and will likely determine the outcome of both the collective and individual claims. Until then, organisations such as Dynamiet and Aequitas are trying to exert pressure with their own proceedings.
Unibet has been under fire for some time due to previous violations
This is not the first time Unibet has been the subject of legal proceedings. The Kansspelautoriteit has already imposed a penalty on the company for illegal betting. The court found that the claims were insufficiently substantiated. You can read more about this in this overview of the GokverliesTerug case. However, the mass claims by Dynamiet and Aequitas have a much broader legal basis.
