Swedish Gaming Authority starts investigation into Kanon Gaming

The Swedish Gaming Authority, Spelinspektionen has started an investigation into online casino operator Kanon Gaming Limited. The authority suspects Kanon gaming of violating procedures and failing to take adequate player protection measures.

Game loss registration and protection of vulnerable players

The research focuses on two main points. Firstly, it will be examined whether Kanon complies with the Swedish Gaming Act regarding the registration of player losses. Kanon currently operates the licensed websites casinoepic.se, casinogami.se, frejacasino.se and lokecasino.se.

In addition, Spelinspektionen will investigate whether Kanon adequately protects players with gambling problems. According to the authority, Kanon does not intervene when players show signs of problematic gambling behavior.

Possible fine and equal treatment regardless of age

In case of violation of the Swedish Gambling Act, Kanon risks a fine of up to 7 million Swedish crowns approximately €700,000.

It also appears that Kanon does not distinguish between age categories, which should be the case. Players over 24 years old are treated the same as those between 18 and 24 years old. However, the latter group is considered more vulnerable to gambling problems.

In response to this, Spelinspektionen recently launched a campaign to create awareness about gambling problems among this target group. In collaboration with government agencies, young adults are informed about the risks of gambling via digital platforms.

“Many young people come into contact with online gambling for money through computer games and apps. With the campaign we try to talk about the consequences of unhealthy gambling in an emotional way.”

“We think the campaign can also appeal to adults, especially parents or relatives of children in the target group.”

Yvonne Hejdenberg Head of Communications at Spelinspektionen

Spelinspektionen is currently also involved in a lawsuit against payment service Zimpler. The payment service offers illegal parties to make payments in Sweden while this is prohibited by law.
