OpenOverGokken: The Ksa unveils a key site on the dangers of gambling

In the Netherlands, the Kansspelautoriteit has taken a new step in preventing the risks associated with gambling with the launch of OpenOverGokken, a national information and support portal accessible to all.

A turning point for the prevention of excessive gambling

In the Netherlands, the gambling sector is undergoing a major transformation. The Ksa, the Dutch Gaming Authority, has just launched OpenOverGokken, a national platform designed to provide information, guidance and support to anyone faced with gambling problems. This tool replaces the former Loket Kansspel service and offers a broader, more accessible approach.

The aim is clear: to break down the taboos surrounding gambling-related behaviour and offer a centralised space for information and support.

A platform for everyone

OpenOverGokken.nl is not just for gamblers. The portal is also aimed at friends and family, healthcare professionals and anyone who wants to better understand the world of gambling and its risks. The site includes:

  • practical advice and explanations of the mechanics of the game,
  • recommendations on how to play responsibly,
  • a help-search tool to identify local support structures,
  • as well as direct access, 24 hours a day, to experts via telephone, chat or WhatsApp.

The strength of this new initiative lies in its accessibility. The platform has been designed to be simple, clear and immediately useful.

Key partners to reinforce credibility

Ksa has not acted alone. The project relies on solid partnerships with recognised players such as the Trimbos-instituut, a Dutch centre for research into mental health and addiction, as well as several specialist care organisations.

To accompany the launch, an initial communication campaign has been launched in collaboration with the NOISE Amsterdam agency. The aim was to make the portal known to as many people as possible, particularly young adults and vulnerable groups.

The advertisements, broadcast on television, on social networks and in public spaces, highlight the simplicity of the slogan: OpenOverGokken. The choice of a direct and transparent tone aims to reduce the shame often associated with gambling problems.

Towards a new culture of transparency?

The creation of this portal is part of a wider movement towards greater transparency around the risks associated with gambling. The Dutch authorities seem determined to balance the freedom to gamble with a strong sense of social responsibility.

While the success of this initiative will depend in part on its visibility and its ability to reach at-risk audiences, its launch already marks an important symbolic step in the regulation of the sector.
