BetBlocker Scheduler: plan your own barriers
During European Safer Gambling Week, BetBlocker announced the launch of a new function: the Scheduler, a planning tool designed to intervene earlier, before a crisis occurs.
An innovation designed to prevent rather than cure
Launched on 18 November 2025, the Scheduler allows BetBlocker users to define time slots for blocking, day by day or week by week. Instead of activating a complete exclusion for weeks or months at a time, users can schedule specific periods: after payday, during sports matches, or even during working evenings.
The challenge, according to BetBlocker, is to offer a more nuanced approach to blocking: no longer just a “yes/no”, but a tailor-made solution, adapted to personal circumstances. As BetBlocker explains:
“Blocking software has always been seen as a tool for reacting to crises. A player loses too much, panics and wants to install a complete block. It’s a valuable service. An essential service that we must continue to support. But blocking software can do so much more if we stop seeing it solely as an abstinence tool.”
For whom and why?
This feature targets an often invisible audience: gamers who don’t want to (or don’t dare) ban themselves completely, but recognise that there are times when they are particularly vulnerable. The Scheduler gives them the power to set up “safe zones” in their week.
Take, for example, the case of a gambler who notices that he is betting more in the days following his salary: with the Scheduler, he can plan a block that activates just after this payment, preventing him from connecting to betting sites during a high-risk period.
Or a sports bettor: during big football nights, when he senses that temptation is about to rise, the block can be activated automatically, without him having to think about it every time.
Limitations and prospects
Although the Scheduler represents a step forward, it does not solve all the problems. BetBlocker has indicated, for example, that it would eventually like to extend the function to allow blocking not just by day, but by specific hours, but that such a development will depend on the funds available.
An increasingly visible application
The relaunch of BetBlocker on the Google Play Store a few months earlier strengthened the accessibility of the tool. After a five-year absence on Android due to technical constraints – notably the fact that the application was difficult to uninstall – BetBlocker has finally offered a version that complies with Google’s requirements.
This reintroduction to the Official Store has been widely welcomed, particularly by Duncan Garvie, who thanked the Google teams for their cooperation.
By launching the Scheduler, BetBlocker is making a strong statement that blocking software should not only be used in extreme situations: it can be a companion on the road, a partner in setting thoughtful limits. If this approach becomes widespread, it could well redefine the architecture of gambling prevention tools, and establish responsibility not as a constraint, but as a possibility.
