Peppermill revives a closed casino in Maastricht

The Rus Tony Group, which operates Peppermill casinos in the Netherlands and Belgium, is set to take over the premises of the former Grand Casino at Maastricht Airport. The venue is set to welcome its first visitors in September 2026.

A closed casino is set to be revived in Maastricht

Just a few months after the closure of the former Grand Casino, the building at Maastricht Airport is set to resume operations. Peppermill Casino has decided to take over the premises and set up a new casino there under its brand. This move enables the Rus Tony Group to strengthen its presence in the Dutch market.

Michael Stadler, director of Peppermill Casino in the Netherlands, acknowledges the industry’s challenging situation. He highlights the significant increases in gambling taxes as well as the current climate of caution in the market. The closure of the former venue at the start of the year had, in fact, highlighted the difficulties facing Dutch operators.

“It is no secret that our sector is going through a historically difficult period. Substantial increases in gambling tax and a cautious market are forcing the entire sector to make difficult choices. The fact that we are nevertheless taking this step at Maastricht Airport is not a sign of easy growth, but rather of a thoughtful entrepreneurial spirit and a great capacity to adapt. “We are convinced that, especially in these difficult times, there is always room for an operator that genuinely invests in the customer experience, innovates in its offering and demonstrates flexibility,” explains Michael Stadler.

The former Grand Casino is set to adopt the Peppermill brand

The building is not simply set to reopen under a new name. Peppermill Casino states that the premises are currently being prepared to meet its own quality standards.

In its press release, the company highlights a high standard of service and warm hospitality. It also cites generous promotional offers and a particularly high frequency of big wins as key features of its concept.

Michael Stadler also emphasises the symbolic significance of the takeover. For Peppermill, the aim is to breathe new life into a venue that the group describes as popular and iconic, whilst infusing it with the brand’s own identity.

“Our visitors from the Maastricht region deserve a high-quality, safe night out of the very highest standard,” says Michael Stadler.

Initial opening scheduled for September 2026

Visitors won’t have to wait for the official opening to experience the new casino. Peppermill is planning an initial opening phase in September. The venue will then operate on reduced opening hours. This period is intended to allow the first visitors to experience the refurbished casino and the standard of service that the operator associates with its brand.

Following this initial phase, Peppermill Casino plans to hold an official opening ceremony. The operator has announced a major celebration featuring a programme of entertainment. It is only after this opening ceremony that the venue is set to return to its usual opening hours, which will be longer than those during the initial phase.

The challenge now is to set this venue on a new course whilst upholding the principles championed by Peppermill: quality of service, hospitality, innovation and adaptability.
