A European week dedicated to protecting players

The European Safer Gambling Week will take place from 16 to 22 November 2026. For this sixth edition, the EGBA is inviting organisations from across Europe to propose events and initiatives dedicated to player protection.

The 2026 edition builds on record participation

The 2025 edition marked a high point for this European campaign. According to figures released by the EGBA, 221 partners from 24 countries took part in the initiative.

Messages promoting safer gambling reached 4.1 million people on social media. Meanwhile, 23 events brought together over 2,500 participants and 120 speakers across Europe.

The campaign also reached a new milestone by broadcasting prevention messages for the first time during televised football matches and at betting outlets.

The aim for 2026 is now to build on this momentum and further expand the campaign’s reach.

Why is this week being organised?

The campaign aims, first and foremost, to raise awareness of safer gambling practices, as well as the protection tools available to players.

It must also facilitate access to support services and resources available in each country. At the same time, the initiative aims to encourage the exchange of best practice amongst the various stakeholders in the sector.

Pierre Tournier calls for ‘open and honest’ discussions

For Pierre Tournier, acting secretary-general of the EGBA, this week is an important time to assess the progress made and identify areas for further improvement.

“European Safer Gaming Week is a key event in the calendar: an opportunity for all of us to take stock of our situation and have open and honest discussions about what more can be done,” says Pierre Tournier. “Last year’s events and discussions were excellent, and we’d like this year’s to be even better. If you’re planning to organise something, please get in touch with us soon so that we can put together the strongest possible programme.”

Who can take part in the 2026 edition?

The call for proposals is not limited to gambling operators. The EGBA aims to bring together a much wider range of stakeholders concerned with player protection.

Regulators, professional associations, prevention organisations, technology providers, research institutions, sports clubs and individuals with first-hand experience of the risks associated with gambling are particularly encouraged to take part.

Contributions can take various forms: online conferences, workshops, round-table discussions, training sessions, the publication of research or data, the launch of new protection initiatives, or cooperation with support organisations.

However, it is not necessary to organise an event. Partners can also take part simply by sharing the campaign’s prevention messages via their own channels.

Materials available from 1 October

To facilitate participation across several countries, the EGBA plans to provide communication materials in local languages.

Logos and visuals to accompany the activities organised during the week will be available from 1 October 2026, upon request.

Deadline set for 19 October

Organisations wishing to include their event or activity in the official programme must come forward by Monday 19 October 2026.

However, the EGBA encourages participants to submit their proposals as early as possible. Early registration will help to organise the programme more effectively and prevent several similar events from being held at the same time.
