eGames: New guidelines for operators

The online gaming sector is about to undergo a major transformation. From 1 May 2025, the Law of 7 May 2024 will come into force, bringing significant changes to eGames services. This reform aims to modernise the legal framework for online gambling, focusing on player protection and operator regulation.

A new version of eGames services

In line with this new legislation, version V2.3 of eGames services will be rolled out in production for all online operators from 1 May 2025. From now on, it will be compulsory to add the national number when registering via the Itsme system, thereby strengthening identity verification. In addition, certain fields have been removed from the account registration and modification forms, namely: profession, nationality, as well as bank account and BIC details, thereby simplifying the process and reducing the collection of sensitive personal data. These changes are designed to improve efficiency while respecting players’ confidentiality.

Online gaming operators will have to adapt their platforms to comply with the requirements of version V2.3 of the eGames services. The current V2.1 version of eGames services will remain active and usable until 1 January 2026. After this date, version V2.3 will become the only authorised version, and the old version V2.1 will be deleted. It should also be noted that there is no version 2.2. This transition is intended to standardise and modernise the system, ensuring that all operators and players switch to the new version before the 2026 deadline.

Greater protection for players

The Act of 7 May 2024 places particular emphasis on player protection. Key measures include the introduction of personalised deposit limits, more accessible self-exclusion tools and campaigns to raise awareness of the risks associated with excessive gambling. These initiatives aim to create a safer and more responsible gaming environment for all users.
