French gambling market continues to grow in 2024: These are the figures

The French gambling world is not standing still in 2024. In the first half of the year, the industry saw growth of 3.8% compared to the same period last year, excluding casinos.

This generated a total of no less than €5.5 billion. And where does this growth come from? Mainly from the strong performance of FDJ and the explosive growth of online sports betting.

Growth of the French gambling market in 2024

The figures do not lie. The French gambling sector continues to grow in 2024. According to the ANJ, the French regulator for the gambling industry, turnover increased by 3.8% in the first six months of the year.

This means that there is a lot more gambling. And that the sector brought in a total of €5.5 billion. The biggest drivers of this growth? FDJ, which offers both lotteries and sports betting, and the enormous popularity of online sports betting.

Online sports betting skyrockets

If there is one thing that is clear, it is that online sports betting is booming. Revenues from this part of the market increased by 16%. People in France are betting en masse on their favorite sports via online platforms, and that is clearly reflected in the figures.

It seems that sports fans are increasingly willing to try their luck. Especially now that the threshold for online gambling is so low.

FDJ remains a major player in the French gambling market

FDJ, or Française des Jeux, has played a leading role in the French gambling sector for years. They offer everything from lotteries to sports betting. And these sports bets are becoming increasingly popular, both online and in physical stores.

FDJ therefore remains the driving force behind a large part of the growth in the sector. Thanks to their strong presence and the trust people have in them, players keep coming back and revenue grows year after year.
