Iconic Las Vegas Mirage to close doors: Make’s way for Hard Rock Hotel
The first mega resort on the Las Vegas Strip Mirage Casino Resort will finally close its doors on July 17. Hard Rock International purchased the resort in 2022 and it will reopen in 2027 as Hard Rock Las Vegas.
From Polynesian legend to Hard Rock Paradise
Steve Wynn an American businessman and real estate developer opened the Mirage in 1989, the most expensive and largest hotel in the world with a value of $630 million. Wynn is best known for his contributions to the development of the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas.
The boulevard volcano show and iconic attractions such as Siegfried and Roy and Cirque du Soleil made it famous.

The planned renovation will include a hotel tower shaped like a guitar and will be nearly 2,300 feet tall, similar to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Florida. The hotel also has more than 31,600 rooms and a 174 square meter casino floor.
3,000 employees laid off due to the closure
The transformation will lay off more than three thousand current employees. The company will have to pay out approximately $80 million in severance payments as a result.
Mirage President Joe Lupo said: “As we pause the incredible transformation of this iconic property, I would like to thank all Mirage team members for their incredible efforts in creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.”
Lupo continued by saying, “We plan to form partnerships with other employers in Las Vegas in the coming months to help our employees find new jobs.”
“Connecting Mirage’s thousands of talented employees who provide excellent service with new career opportunities is of paramount importance.”
Las Vegas Strip has been completely renovated
The closure of the Mirage follows the announcement that Tropicana Las Vegas, which opened in 1957, would close. The new stadium for the Oakland Athletics baseball team, expected to open in 2028, will take the place of the Tropicana.
The Las Vegas Strip is currently undergoing a transformation not seen in decades. This not only includes the new Hard Rock Hotel, the sports venuel and the recently opened Sphere concert hall. The iconic skyline is changing and making way for new gambling and entertainment giants.
