Illegal gambling sites: the updated blacklist
On 15 January 2026, the Belgian Gaming Commission (GC) published an update to its blacklist of illegal gambling sites.
This document, published regularly by the regulator, serves as a warning: any platform listed does not have a licence to offer games of chance or betting to Belgian players. Playing on one of these sites not only exposes users to financial and technical risks, but also constitutes an offence that may be subject to legal sanctions.
Strict but necessary legislation
In Belgium, as in many European countries, the operation of online gambling and betting is subject to strict regulations. A platform that wishes to operate legally must obtain a licence issued by the GC, which implies compliance with strict standards in terms of player fund security, fraud prevention and protection against addiction.
When a site operates services without authorisation, the Commission adds it to its blacklist. This means that:
- Internet service providers may be asked to block access to these domains;
- players risk fines or prosecution if they choose to use these services.
This measure aims to protect consumers, prevent tax evasion and ensure that operators who comply with the rules can continue to offer safe and compliant games.

The risks incurred by players
Gambling on an illegal gambling site is not just a matter of compliance. It is an activity that carries many risks for the user. According to the Commission:
- games may be manipulated or rigged;
- financial transactions are not guaranteed;
- personal data may be exploited fraudulently;
- there is no legal recourse in the event of a dispute.
The GC emphasises that players are not protected by any legal framework when they bet their money on an unauthorised site. In addition to losing money, they also expose themselves to criminal or administrative penalties.
Tips to bet safely
To avoid pitfalls, the GC recommends that players:
- check whether the site displays a Belgian licence or the official ‘Always Play Legally’ logo;
- ensure that the domain corresponds to a company licensed by the Commission.
