Jack’s Casino: another disturbing robbery

Jack’s Casino in Amersfoort (Netherlands) has once again been the target of an armed robbery, plunging the town into anxiety. On the night of Monday 17 to Tuesday 18 February, an individual armed with a knife stormed the establishment, forcing staff to hand over a sum of money before fleeing.

A robbery in the middle of the night

On the night of Monday 17 to Tuesday 18 February, at around 00:50, Jack’s Casino on De Kamp in Amersfoort was the scene of an armed robbery. An individual armed with a knife burst into the establishment and threatened the staff present, demanding cash. Under duress, the staff complied, allowing the robber to escape with a sum of money, the exact amount of which has yet to be determined.

After obtaining the loot, the suspect fled on foot towards Kreupelstraat. According to witnesses, he then got on an electric bike and quickly disappeared from the scene. Customers present tried to pursue him, but were delayed by the casino’s security doors, rendering their intervention futile.

Witness appeal and investigation underway

The police, alerted immediately after the incident, quickly intervened and launched a search of the surrounding area, without success so far. The authorities examined the casino’s CCTV footage in the hope of identifying the perpetrator. The suspect is described as wearing a black North Face jacket, sports trousers and a balaclava. Investigators are appealing for anyone with relevant information to come forward to help with the investigation.

A worrying precedent

This is not the first time that Jack’s Casino in Amersfoort has been the target of such criminal acts. In January 2023, a similar attack took place, in which a knife-wielding individual stole around €3,500. At the time, the broadcast of CCTV images on the ‘Bureau Hengeveld’ programme led to the arrest of the suspect, a 29-year-old man from Amersfoort, who turned himself in to the authorities after being reported.

As a result of these repeated incidents, the management of Jack’s Casino is considering stepping up security measures to protect both staff and customers. Discussions are underway to install additional devices and train staff to react effectively in the event of similar situations.
