LiveScore Bet pulls the plug: ComeOn benefits
LiveScore Bet has pulled the plug in the Netherlands. Since November 29, 2024, the site is no longer be a place where you can bet. Instead, the site redirects visitors to the online casino ComeOn. A remarkable step.
Why LiveScore Bet is closing down
The decision to close down did not come out of the blue. At the beginning of November, LiveScore Bet already announced that it was difficult to continue operating in the Netherlands. They are not the only ones; bingo site tombola also stopped earlier this month. The reason? The gambling tax will increase significantly in January 2025, and that makes the market unsustainable according to LiveScore Bet.
Sam Sadi, CEO of the company, was clear about that. He called the combination of higher taxes and stricter rules an “impossible situation”. Players were still allowed to deposit and wager money until November 25, but now the site is closed for gambling activities.
What happens to the website now?
Although you can no longer log in to the LiveScore Bet site, the URL remains active. The platform now has a very different role: it acts as an affiliate for ComeOn, another legal gambling site in the Netherlands. Visitors who open the site will see two banners that redirect them to a special page for ComeOn.
The message on the homepage is clear:
“LiveScore Bet is no longer taking bets in the Netherlands, so we have teamed up with some fantastic other sports betting and casino providers that we highly recommend.”
In addition to the banners to ComeOn, the site also refers to LiveScore, a platform that offers live scores and results of sports events. It seems that LiveScore Bet is not disappearing completely, but is reinventing itself.
What does this mean for players?
For Dutch gamblers, this is a change that many will feel. LiveScore Bet was a popular name in the market, and its departure leaves a void. It is also a sign on the wall: the stricter rules and higher taxes make the Dutch gambling market less attractive for big players.
Players are now being referred to ComeOn, a casino that operates legally under a Dutch license. This does offer some continuity, but the departure of LiveScore Bet raises questions about the future of other providers in the country.
