Roddelpraat in disrepute: Presenters promote illegal online casino

The latest episode of the popular YouTube program Roddelpraat advertised an online casino (Amonbet) that is illegally active in the Netherlands. Presenters Jan Roos and Dennis Schouten praised the casino and even actively encouraged viewers to register and start gambling.

Why illegal?

Online gambling is only permitted in the Netherlands if it is offered by a casino with an official government license. This is issued by the Gaming Authority. The online casino that was promoted in Roddelpraat does not have a license which means it operates illegally in the Netherlands.

Risks of illegal gambling?

Gambling at illegal online casinos involves various risks. There is no guarantee that you can actually pay out your winnings. In addition there are no agencies that can help you if you experience problems with the casino such as addiction or fraud.

Legal

The Remote Gaming Act (Wkoa) prohibits the promotion of illegal online casinos in the Netherlands. Presenters Jan Roos and Dennis Schouten may be breaking the law by promoting the illegal casino in their program.

Possible consequences

The Ksa can impose fines on both the illegal online casino and those who promote it. In the worst case, there may even be criminal charges.
In Belgium it is even prohibited by law to play on illegal casino websites if one does so knowingly. So don’t play at the casino that Roddelpraat recommends.
