Piracy and illegal gambling: these court rulings are finally accessible
Belgium’s intellectual property case-law database has been expanded with new rulings concerning online piracy and illegal gambling on the internet.
The most recent rulings are now easier to access
Finding the latest Belgian court rulings on intellectual property is becoming easier. The Belgian Intellectual Property Office (OPRI) has announced an update to its case-law database, with a new way of organising results and a broader range of available decisions.
The platform now displays rulings in reverse chronological order, meaning that the most recent judgments appear directly at the top of the list. This change is intended to make searches easier, allowing users to access the latest decisions without having to browse through older results. But this reorganisation is not the only new feature announced by the Office.
Online piracy: new rulings added
The main development concerns the inclusion of decisions issued under Belgium’s procedure for combating online piracy and illegal gambling on the internet.
Until now, these rulings were not part of the announced scope of this database. They can now be consulted directly through this tool dedicated to intellectual property case law.
The Office states that this expansion concerns decisions taken under a specific procedure provided for by the Belgian Code of Economic Law.
This extension is based on a precise legal framework: Book XVII, Title 1/1 of the Code of Economic Law. This part of Belgian legislation provides for a specific procedure aimed at combating online piracy and illegal gambling on the internet.
