Lawyer Loonstein is pursuing a class action against online casinos

The Amsterdam law firm of Benzi Loonstein is launching a mass claim to help thousands of players get their money back from online casinos. The chance of success is high, partly due to a recent ruling by the Overijssel District Court in which Unibet had to repay a player almost €700,000.

Questions about online gambling to the Supreme Court

In June 2023, the courts of North Holland and Amsterdam asked five questions to the Supreme Court. These related to the lawsuits between gamblers and online casinos that were active in the Netherlands before October 1, 2021. This was to prevent conflicting statements.

Previous lawsuits won

Despite previous rulings in favor of gamblers, a judge in Breda ruled in favor of an online casino in May 2023. Recently, a player was ruled in favor by the judge, forcing Unibet to pay back €676,225. The highest amount to date in the Netherlands that an operator must refund to a player.

Advocate promotes case in American style

Loonstein calls on players who lost money at casinos such as Unibet, PokerStars and Bwin before October 1, 2021 to register for the mass claim. 5,000 people have already registered, but the number could be much higher.

The lawyer is optimistic about the chances: “The recent rulings show that the chance of success is high. People received money back that they could put to good use. We hope that many will join this promising case.”
