The ANJ and the Addiction Federation join forces in the fight against excessive gambling

Reading time: 2 minutes This July 23, 2024, the French National Gambling Authority (ANJ), represented by its president Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin and the Addiction Federation, represented by its president Catherine Delorme, signed a partnership agreement. This convention will strengthen the prevention of excessive gambling and the protection of minors through joint actions.
Alarming figures
In France, irresponsible gambling represents a major social problem, particularly affecting young people. According to the Games Observatory, in 2019, 1.4 million players were at risk, including nearly 400,000 at pathological level. Risky gambling thus generates more than 38% of the turnover of the online gambling sector and 21% for high-risk players alone.
These figures illustrate the scale of the problem and its harmful consequences on gamblers and those around them, such as over-indebtedness or family problems.
A partnership for effective action
The ANJ and the Addiction Federation aim to pool their respective expertise in order to carry out concrete and effective actions to combat excessive gambling. This partnership will be structured around different axes.
Strengthen scientific knowledge of the market
Through joint studies to better understand gambler behaviors and risk factors for excessive gambling. This data will make it possible to develop more effective prevention and support strategies.
Mobilize all stakeholders concerned
Collaboration with addiction professionals, players’ associations, public authorities and the media will make it easier to raise public awareness of the risks of excessive gambling. This will also promote responsible gambling practices.
Joint training for addiction professionals
These training courses, organized this year, will allow professionals to better identify players at risk and direct them towards the appropriate support systems.
Publication of a document on the regulation of gambling
This document will provide addiction professionals with valuable information on the issues surrounding the regulation of gambling and the tools available to combat excessive gambling.
