Gaming Authority strengthens supervision of online gambling companies

The Gaming Authority (Ksa) takes the duty of care of online gaming providers very seriously. To ensure compliance with this duty, a new department is being established: Duty of Care Online.

Duty of care: Ksa priority

Major gambling losses and the increase in gambling addiction are causing the Ksa to worry. Last year, research showed that online providers fulfill their duty of care in different ways, resulting in shortcomings. The Responsible Gaming Policy Rule was therefore introduced in September 2023 with stricter measures for providers.

New department: more intensive supervision

The Duty of Care Online department will monitor compliance with the duty of care by online gambling providers. This is done, among other things, by:

  • Extensive file research: An in-depth investigation is carried out at providers that stand out in the control data, or where signals from players are received.
  • Monitoring compliance with policy rules: Compliance with the new Responsible Gaming policy is closely monitored.
  • Compliance with new ministry rules: Compliance with the new rules drawn up by the ministry is monitored.
  • Investigate indicators of addiction: In addition to major losses, other indicators that may indicate addiction are also investigated.

Goal: safe playing environment

Michel Groothuizen, chairman of the Ksa, emphasizes the importance of compliance with the duty of care: “In our annual plan and the Supervision Agenda 2024, we have made it clear that this is an important and urgent priority. With the establishment of this department and the expansion of our capacity , we can strengthen our supervision and fulfill our ‘safe play’ mission even better.”
