New round in National Lottery riot: Haek will follow a leadership course

Jannie Haek will remain CEO of the National Lottery. This was decided by the board of directors. The decision comes after another failed mediation attempt between Haek and the unions. They had lost confidence in him due to accusations of “toxic leadership” and “unacceptable verbal abuse” and “excessive alcohol consumption”.

Despite the retained confidence, Haek will have to follow leadership training to improve his communication style. The training is part of 30 measures that the board of directors has taken to restore peace within the company.

Measures to restore trust

In addition to the leadership training for Haek, the measures also include:

  • Better information provision to staff about the channels through which they can safely report problems.
  • Restoration of social dialogue.
  • An external audit to see what went wrong with social consultation.
  • A psychosocial risk analysis of the company.

The board of directors will closely monitor the implementation of the action plan.

“We want to give the action plan a chance and at the same time monitor that it is implemented as quickly as possible.”

Géraldine Demaret, chairman

The future of the National Lottery

It is still unclear what the future holds for the National Lottery. The unions have already indicated that they will closely monitor developments within the company. Whether Haek will succeed in winning the trust of the unions and employees remains to be seen.

BAGO calls for action against illegality!

BAGO is warning about the growing number of illegal casinos in Belgium, where 60% of online gambling traffic comes from unauthorised platforms. A study reveals that 20% of Belgian players are taking part, putting consumers and the national economy at risk.

What is volatility at the casino?

Volatility in online casino games determines the frequency and size of winnings. Low-volatility games offer regular but modest winnings, while high-volatility games offer larger but rarer winnings.

Belgium blocks 30 new illegal casinos

The Gaming Commission updated its blacklist of illegal gambling sites on 27 March 2025, adding 30 new banned platforms, bringing the total to more than 600. Operating without a licence, these sites expose players to financial and legal risks, with no possibility of recourse in the event of a dispute.
