itsme arrives in Dutch casinos

Since June 2026, the Belgian identity verification service itsme has been available in the Netherlands. The app is set to gradually replace iDIN, which is still in temporary use, particularly by Dutch online casinos when players register.

An arrival that changes verification practices

In the Netherlands, itsme, the Belgian identity verification service, can now be used by Dutch consumers.

This arrival comes as no surprise. At the end of 2025, itsme acquired iDIN, the Dutch system widely used to confirm users’ identities using data held by their banks. Following this acquisition, the roll-out of the itsme app in the Netherlands was announced as imminent.

The transition is now underway, but it will not happen overnight. iDIN remains available for a limited period. It is expected to be phased out by the end of 2027.

Why online casinos are directly affected

The online casino sector is one of the first areas to be affected by this change. In the Netherlands, operators frequently use iDIN when registering new players. This process facilitates account verification and entry into a regulated environment.

The question is therefore obvious: what will happen when iDIN disappears? The expected answer is clear. Once iDIN is no longer available, Dutch online casinos are likely to turn to itsme to fulfil this verification function.

A solution already well established in Belgium

In Belgium, the app is already widely used by the adult population. According to available information, around 85% of Belgian adults are already using itsme. This high uptake gives the company a solid foundation as it expands its role into the Dutch market.

The availability of itsme is not limited to Belgium and the Netherlands. Since 2025, the app has been available in all other European Union member states.

It is also accessible to residents of the United Kingdom, Norway and Iceland. This expanded coverage demonstrates that the service is seeking to establish itself as a digital identification tool beyond its original borders.
