French-speaking regulators unite for stronger regulation

Reading time: 2 minutes Representatives of the regulatory authorities of Belgium, France, Guinea and Ivory Coast met on January 20, 2025 at the ICE exhibition in Barcelona. This meeting marks an important step in strengthening French-speaking cooperation in gambling regulation.
A dynamic initiated since 2023
This initiative is part of the continuity of a momentum of cooperation initiated in June 2023. The National Gaming Authority (ANJ) in France and the Gaming Commission (CJH) in Belgium signed a cooperation agreement. Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, President of the ANJ, and Magali Clavie, President of the CJH, had formalized their desire to strengthen their exchanges. This agreement provides for strategic cooperation in key areas such as player protection and joint reporting.
Shared commitment for the future
The success of the Franco-Belgian convention served as a catalyst for this new expanded cooperation effort. At their meeting in Barcelona, the four regulators agreed to hold an annual face-to-face meeting to take stock of progress and define next steps.
They committed to sharing best practices and pooling their efforts to better protect players while ensuring a responsible and secure gaming environment.
Their goal is clear: to develop common and harmonious regulation that takes into account the wealth and specificities of each French-speaking jurisdiction. This inclusive approach ensures that cooperation between French-speaking countries will remain a benchmark model in the world.
International ambition on the horizon
With this emerging alliance, the French-speaking world aims to establish itself as a major player in the international regulation of gambling. The four countries intend to share their model with other jurisdictions, particularly in French-speaking African countries, in order to promote high standards of consumer protection.
By combining their efforts, the authorities of Belgium, France, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire are paving the way for strengthened regulation adapted to the modern challenges of gambling.
