How to read a Dice game’s paytable

Learn how to read a Dice game’s paytable. One detailed example explains points, bets, score multipliers and actual cash prizes.

Imagine this: you have wagered one euro, placed the final column of dice and the screen displays 200 points. An animation starts, accompanied by celebratory sounds. But your balance changes in a way you did not expect. Instead of receiving €200, you receive €4.

Nothing unusual has happened. You have simply confused two different things: the score and the cash prize. A Dice game can display points, euros and multipliers on the same screen. Only when you understand what each number represents can you properly check the outcome of a round.

That is what the paytable is for. It explains how the game evaluates symbols, what score is required and which prize corresponds to that score. Below, we follow one simplified example round of Infinity Dice. The scenario is fictional, but the symbol values, score multiplier and payout have been checked against published game information.

The big number on the screen only tells part of the story

When you open a Dice game for the first time, you usually see several things at once: dice featuring different colours and symbols, multiple playing grids, a bet amount and a table displaying increasing prizes. Your attention may quickly turn to the largest amounts, while the small explanations next to them receive less attention.

Yet those explanations contain the information that determines what your result actually means. A number next to a die may represent a points value. An amount in the paytable may correspond to a specific bet. And one multiplier may apply to the score, while another multiplies a cash prize.

Our explanation of how Dice games work and why they are popular in Belgium covers the basics. When reading a paytable, there is one additional habit worth developing: check the unit associated with every important number. Does it say “points”, “€”, “x bet” or something else?

A score without a monetary unit is not yet a cash prize. Displaying a number prominently does not change its meaning. The paytable establishes the connection between what happens on the playing field and what is credited to your balance.

First the symbols, then the points

In Infinity Dice, you place a column of three randomly generated dice into one of four grids. Three matching dice forming a valid horizontal or diagonal line earn points. The value varies depending on the symbol.

For example, the published instructions specify 20 points for a line containing certain lower-value dice symbols and 40 points for a line of red dice showing four pips. This does not mean that every individual red die adds 40 points to your total. The points are awarded for the valid combination.

This is the first step in reading a symbol table: look not only at the die and the number displayed next to it, but also at the conditions. How many matching symbols are required? Which lines count? Are there exceptions for bonus symbols?

Our Infinity Dice review and its explanation of the grid and scoring system provide additional background on these mechanics. Do not automatically apply the values from this game to another title. Familiar dice symbols do not guarantee identical rules.

Next comes the bet amount

Before our example round begins, we set the bet at €1. This amount serves as the basis for calculating the financial result. The points earned during the round must then be matched to the paytable corresponding to that bet.

The Infinity Dice game description and paytable list, among other values, a payout of €4 for 200 points. Prizes are adjusted according to the selected bet. Published information from betFIRST also confirms that the displayed cash prizes depend on the bet level.

This is where confusion often arises. A paytable may display euro amounts that have already been adjusted to the selected bet. Another version may express prizes as multiples of the wager. With a €1 bet, the multiplier and the euro amount may happen to have the same numerical value, but that is not the case with other bet amounts.

Always check what the table is displaying. If it shows a cash prize in euros, you should not multiply that amount by your bet again. If it displays a prize worth four times the total bet, you do need to perform that multiplication.

One example round: from four lines to 200 points

In this simplified example round, we leave out all additional bonus features. There is no grid containing nine identical dice, and there are no separate cash prizes from a bonus game. We calculate the result using only four winning lines, one per grid.

Three grids contain a combination worth 20 points each. The fourth grid contains a line of red dice showing four pips, worth 40 points. The base points are therefore calculated as follows:

Playing grid Winning combination in the example Base value
Grid 1 One valid line of 20-point symbols 20 points
Grid 2 One valid line of 20-point symbols 20 points
Grid 3 One valid line of 20-point symbols 20 points
Grid 4 One valid line of red dice showing four pips 40 points
Total before score multiplier  100 points

At this stage, we have not calculated any monetary amount. We have only added up the valid line scores: 20 + 20 + 20 + 40 = 100 points.

According to the published Infinity Dice rules, a x2 score multiplier applies when points are scored in all four grids. Our example meets that condition. The final score is therefore:

100 base points × 2 = 200 points.

What matters is that points are scored in the grids. Simply filling four grids is not the same as forming valid scoring combinations in all four. This distinction must be checked in the rules.

The score multiplier has already been applied

This is where a second misunderstanding can arise. The screen displays 200 points, and somewhere you see x2. You might therefore assume that the final cash prize should also be doubled. In our example, that would mean calculating €8 instead of €4.

But the x2 multiplier has already been applied. It increased the base score from 100 to 200 points. You then look up 200 points in the cash paytable. Applying the same score multiplier again to the resulting payout would mean counting it twice.

Some games and bonus features also include multipliers that apply directly to cash prizes. That is why you should ask the same question whenever you encounter a multiplier: exactly which amount or score is being multiplied?

The “x” symbol indicates multiplication. On its own, it does not tell you which stage of the payout calculation it applies to. You need the description and the game rules to understand that.

From 200 points to a €4 payout

Only now do we turn to the financial part of the paytable. With our selected €1 bet, the final score of 200 points corresponds to a €4 payout in this example.

The entire calculation can be summarised in four steps:

Step Calculation or check Result
1. Determine the bet Amount wagered at the start of the round €1
2. Add up valid line scores 20 + 20 + 20 + 40 100 base points
3. Apply the score multiplier 100 × 2 200 points
4. Look up the cash prize 200 points with a €1 bet €4 payout

The net profit on this single round is €3: the €4 payout minus the €1 bet. If you started with a €10 balance, it would decrease to €9 after placing the bet. Once the €4 payout is credited, your balance would be €13.

This is a useful distinction because a game may display a payout as a “win”. The amount credited to your balance is not always the same as your net profit. You must also account for the original bet when evaluating the result.

More points do not always mean proportionally more money

After this round, the conversion may seem straightforward: 200 points produce a €4 payout. However, you should not conclude that every point is always worth two euro cents. A paytable may use thresholds and different payout levels.

For example, the published Infinity Dice paytable lists €8 for 400 points and €100 for 1,000 points at the specified reference bet. The relationship between points and cash prizes therefore does not remain constant across the table.

That is why the paytable is more important than a conversion formula you invent yourself. Find the applicable score category and follow the game’s instructions. If your score falls between two displayed levels, check how it is handled. You should not assume an intermediate payout without confirmation from the rules.

The largest prize at the top of the table also tells you nothing about how frequently it is awarded. A list of possible rewards is not a list of their probabilities.

Read bonus points, cash prizes and Mystery Games separately

In Infinity Dice, a bonus game can produce different types of results. Air Dice’s official Infinity Dice information mentions points, money and Mystery Games. These are three separate categories, even if they appear within the same bonus animation.

Additional points must be included in the score calculation according to the game rules. A separate cash prize is a financial reward with its own conditions. Mystery Games provide access to different rounds, where you must once again check what constitutes a winning result.

Our explanation of Mystery Games and their special payout rules explores these distinctions. The base game’s paytable does not automatically determine the payouts for every bonus mode.

We have deliberately excluded these features from our example round. This makes it clear where the €4 payout comes from. If a bonus result is involved, you should only add it once the rules explain how it combines with the other results.

RTP is not part of a single round’s payout calculation

You may also see an RTP percentage displayed alongside the paytable. This can provide useful background information, but it is not a factor you apply to reduce a winning amount. You should therefore not multiply our €4 payout by the RTP percentage.

RTP describes a theoretical average over a very large number of rounds, under the conditions of the game’s mathematical model. It does not predict the payout from your individual round. That is determined by the actual combinations and the corresponding paytable.

Our explanation of RTP and the house edge in casino games puts this percentage into context. Keep these concepts separate: points represent the score, the paytable determines the prize, and RTP describes the long-term mathematical model.

Reading a paytable correctly therefore helps you understand a particular result. It does not make the next outcome predictable or turn a potentially large prize into a likely result.

Check your balance once more after the animation

Let’s return to where we started. The screen displays 200 points, your bet was €1, and €4 has been credited to your balance. The difference between these numbers is no longer a mystery. You have interpreted the line scores, score multiplier and cash prize in the correct order.

This sequence is useful for every new game: check your bet, identify valid combinations, add up the points, apply any score multipliers and then look up the cash prize. Evaluate bonus results separately and calculate the net result of the round.

Always use the information provided for the specific version of the game you are playing. A casino may display dynamically adjusted amounts, and another title may use different thresholds. The goal is not to memorise the largest prize, but to understand exactly how the game calculates the result of your wager.
