Suspect in Napoleon Casino Genk Shooting Arrested in Spain

An international search operation was conducted for the case of the shooting at Napoleon Casino in Genk last October. This concluded last week with the successful arrest in Spain of a 43-year-old man suspected of involvement in the incident. This came about after a joint operation between Belgian and Spanish police.

Shooting at Napoleon Casino in Genk

The events in question took place on the night of October 8-9, 2023, near the Napoleon Casino in Genk, where shots were fired.

Local residents witnessed the incident and described two bangs, followed by screeching tires of a fleeing car. Detectives quickly identified a 43-year-old man from Genk as the main suspect. House searches turned up nothing, and it later emerged that the fugitive had already fled abroad, prompting an international manhunt.

Suspect Hid Out

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended in the Alicante region of Spain after fleeing Belgium. The arrest took place on November 22, 2023, ending a chase that lasted over a month.

In collaboration with Spanish authorities, Belgian police successfully located and arrested the suspect in the Alicante region. Belgium is currently working on finalizing extradition procedures to bring the person back before the Belgian court. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Limburg and the Carma police, responsible for the Genk region, are on the case.

Stabbing and False Bomb Threat

This is not the first time various Napoleon Games chains have been involved in incidents. Recently, a branch in Sint-Truiden was the scene of a knife attack in self-defense, where a Romanian man was stabbed. He has since been declared out of danger.

Additionally, Napoleon’s headquarters was recently shaken by a false bomb threat in September. The threatening call turned out to be a misplaced joke from a customer who had suffered significant losses.
